Not a big or complicated novel. A good and fun read.
A bit creepy, some strong and interesting characters, great sense of magic house and gardens.

“A recommendation by David Mitchell personally to me (at a great event to discuss Slade House)
This is a modern classic, written in the 1950’s when many West Indian men and women known as the Windrush Generation came to London to start a new life. Not a plot driven novel, and a little depressing, but important view of social history.
I can’t say I enjoyed it much. 4/10

“Not your regular second novel. Good though
Hard to describe and recommend.
An older man meets up with a tearaway old chum and things begin to liven up.
