“Our New Yorker runs away from a broken relationship taking up an offer of a rather odd job in Dubai. We follow him through this and read via the first person. Where it gets clever is the constant internal debates he has with himself, writing imaginary emails in his head he’ll never send.
Listed in the long list of the Booker, I liked it and give it a 7/10, our book group scored it 7.75/10

“Here is a fine debut novel, he has gone on to write plenty more but this as a first novel is remarkable.
If all publishers had the balls to take on something new and different the literary world would be a far better place.
Mitchell has created a host of characters all of which show a terrific skill of writing, not all of it comes together or is meant too.
