“I’m told by the author that this is a departure from his tongue in cheek crime novels.
I read his first a few years back and hadn’t felt the need to try again. But when you are due to introduce a guest speak one likes to be up to date with their work.
So… I tore through the first third, got bored in the middle section, disappointed with the ending.
It had the making of some longer tern characters who I’m sure we will read about again. They will develop, one reminded me of Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum.
Perhaps I should just stop reading crime novels?

“At last the drought of good books is over.
Every now and then I find a gem and this is one of them. Not a run of the mill novel, no straight forward story.
All happens in Derbyshire where we meet three main characters who all miss the man they loved. One the wife, out of place? Two, the unrequited love? Three, the affected son.
Top stuff, highly recommended.
