Best described as a novella. Reminded me of other American period classics like Grapes of Wrath maybe. I couldn’t really connect with it, good writing but I’d have liked a stronger story line. Our reading group scored 5.2/10 me just 4

Weird and not so wonderful collection of short stories. The reader is likely to be unsettled. The first few are good and then I got bored and gave up. Our group were equally uninspired. Average 4

A violent crime novel. Took me ages to read it which is a sure sign of lack of engagement. Other readers rate it better than me, am I missing something?

My initial thought was ‘what the bloody hell was the point of all that’! Yes I know many loved the book, the critics rave about it. I’ve read other by him and thoroughly enjoyed them. Couldn’t connect at all to this self absorbed, mid life crisis character.
