Another fine book from one of my favourite authors. I’d urge you to read this black comedy. Mother and son leave NYC for Paris having lost/spent their fortune. They smuggle the cat along who features as things get a little crazy later on. I enjoyed the relationship between Mother and son particularly, dry humour at its best. A good book group read.

There’s only one way to read this or any book by David Sedaris and that is an audio book. He narrates his own and does a brill job. These stories, about the himself, his partner , his parents and family. It is a memoir, and very funny, sometime a little sad, but not for long.

Isn’t it lovely when you find a good book. And this certainly is a good book. His writing is a breath of fresh air, not formulaic or contrived. It is a comic novel, not a long book and wizzes along, laugh out loud. Our protagonist is a bit of a yuppy, he messes up and his life spirals out of control. The more he try’s to fix it the worse it gets. Great book, maybe more of a blokes book?

“This is Bryson at his best and back on the tour as a twenty year follow up to notes from a Small Island.
Charming and funny, he is interesting, a bit grumpy but in a good way, for an Anglophile he does a great job.
Definitely one I’m recommending and a strong 8/10
