Short but not so sweet. I enjoyed the experience and feel it ought to be on school reading lists. A significant novel in Literature.

7/10 from me and same from our book group. A lively discussion at book club. If you like Murakami or Mitchell I’d definitely read this. So begins the first letter that falls into Wang’s lap as he flips down the visor in his taxi. The letters that follow are filled with the stories of Wang’s previous lives—from escaping a marriage to a spirit bride, to being a slave on the run from Genghis Khan, to living as a fisherman during the Opium Wars, and being a teenager on the Red Guard. We are taken back to these lives and reincarnations. Brutal and intriguing

“British crime, the tale alternates between our protagonist as a boy in Northern Ireland and now in Kent. Secrets and murder.
It hangs together pretty well. The ending might have got a tad out of hand, but I enjoyed it well enough. 7/10

“His writing is brisk and fresh. A sort of grown up Harry Potter novel.
Tongue in cheek and entertaining read. I could see the characters reappearing in future books and that would be good. I’ll read more by him.
