“I’m told by the author that this is a departure from his tongue in cheek crime novels.
I read his first a few years back and hadn’t felt the need to try again. But when you are due to introduce a guest speak one likes to be up to date with their work.
So… I tore through the first third, got bored in the middle section, disappointed with the ending.
It had the making of some longer tern characters who I’m sure we will read about again. They will develop, one reminded me of Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum.
Perhaps I should just stop reading crime novels?

“A whole series to enjoy here should I wish to continue.
Vienna 1903. An operatic diva is found dead, natural cause or murder? Enter Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt and his young friend, the psychoanalyst Dr. Max Liebermann.
This is a literary thriller and more. I got an excellent sense of etiquette and life style, I’d no idea how powerful Vienna was at this time.
Bonus was that I got to meet and introduce the author…he’s working on a horror novel next, definitely worth a read.

“Another average debut novel which comes with a lot of hype.
The story is that one sister goes missing and then is discovered dead, but was she murdered?
Maybe I’m being a bit mean here.

“Not sure there is much worth saying about this book.
I gave up on page 69. Very tame and slow English 50’s mystery with an 11 year of amateur detective… Dribble.
