“Sold as ‘if you like Henning Mankell…’
A Swedish thriller on the island of Gotland, so far so good, Gotland has very strong history with medieval Vikings.
So we now have a serial killer and a secret sect. All the ingredients are there but this was a poor thriller, too slow and if I want twists and turns I’ll read Deaver or Larsson.
Our book group had a worse opinion…average 2.5/10 someone gave it zero points!

“Begins very well with a mass suicide (or is it?) by a secret sect.
We then drift off to the relationship of the title.
I never felt in touch with these two unlikely lovers.

“Thriller written 40 years ago and showing its age.
Looking back it’s clichéd…the sexy woman drives an MG etc
Cold war and nuclear subs in Scottish waters, a mystery and believable.
Back then they also wrote short novels, only 270 pages. But a murder mystery without any swear words…flip me!

Humourous but lacks depth. Short chapters and page turning stuff. Bit like eating vanilla ice cream, nice while you eat it .
