Rather plodding and ultimately unsatisfactory novel.
The story of a 1060’s couple who have twins, the father delivers them, being a doctor etc. Sadly the girl twin has Downs syndrome and he chooses to get rid of her without telling his wife.
Perhaps it would have a stronger effect on a female reader/mother.

Time shifts effortlessly from twins aged nine to now at 32. A near perfect example of how witting should be done.
Set in India this story revolves around a family tragedy. A complex novel and a seriously good read.
It won the Booker and alas nothing has been written by her since, if she does I’ll read like a shot.

Her second novel after the well reviewed Tractors…
Enjoyable enough and I liked her writing style.
A light humorous touch. Where it falls down is; is it a political statement about immigrants and class or is it a romantic comedy?
Nevertheless I recommend it with 7/10 Oh and the book group liked it too

Debut thriller and a very good one.
1950’s Stalinist Russia, an MGB agent is the main character in this serial killer thriller.
What sets this apart is the way the author brings across the fear that Russian people had of the state society.
I recommend this book.
PS Based on a true story of Andrei Chikatile who was known as the butcher of Rostov. He killed 60 children and remained undetected due to the fact that the state would recognise a serial killer crime.
