Wonderful Today by Pattie Boyd

By the wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Pattie was a successful model (cover of Vogue) who has been in the thick of British music from the beginning of the swinging sixties.
The details are interesting but the writing not so good. I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by her.
It seems everyone involved was heavily into drugs and booze…but they still managed to write some brilliant music, Layla and Wonderful Tonight were both about Pattie Boyd.

Having reached the best seller list with his fourth novel, and perhaps the Richard and Judy gave him his breakthrough, I was keen to see how he started.
Also I was due to meet him at an event in Glasgow! Here he described his difficulty getting published, the reason that being English and writing novels about Americans in America didn’t fit either side of the Atlantic.
The good news he did get a chance and this his first is set in 60’s USA. Nathan (Negro) and Daniel (white) are innocent kids growing up. Told by Daniel from a cell on death row. This conspiracy thriller is a bit long winded but not half bad for a debut.

Billed as a great book in the USA so I gave it the whole book thinking it would get better. I shouldn’t have bothered.
I really didn’t get it ? Was the main character mentally ill, or was it an American attempt to write something like The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime? If so it failed miserably.

English thriller which successfully gathers speed and maintains the readers interest through to the end.
Perhaps a bit slow to begin but a creditable plot.
Nikki French is a husband and wife writing team, I wonder if Nikki writes more?
