My initial thought was ‘what the bloody hell was the point of all that’! Yes I know many loved the book, the critics rave about it. I’ve read other by him and thoroughly enjoyed them. Couldn’t connect at all to this self absorbed, mid life crisis character.

There’s only one way to read this or any book by David Sedaris and that is an audio book. He narrates his own and does a brill job. These stories, about the himself, his partner , his parents and family. It is a memoir, and very funny, sometime a little sad, but not for long.
