“An early Dave Robicheaux novel and it won him an Edgar award.
In my view this is his best series, if you wanted to read them in order all the better but I haven’t and it matters not.
A well done thriller with lots of action and good writing. 7/10

“Perhaps this is JB indulging himself with his knowledge and like of Dmitri Shostakovich? This novel is set in Russia 1936 and highlights the Great Terror that Stalin brought.
Parts of this story are based on real events and for this it is interesting. I did read more of this time period off the back of the novel.
Our book club scored it 5/10 me a mean 3.5/10

Not a big or complicated novel. A good and fun read.
A bit creepy, some strong and interesting characters, great sense of magic house and gardens.
Book club average score 8/10 and same 8/10 from me.

We follow the life of a young Texan soldier who after rescuing a beautiful Jewish woman during WW2, becomes a successful business man. But his success brings trouble from powerful men.
