A very good detective novel that has a unique feel about it.
It manages to be different from other murder mysteries without trying too hard.
The translation might have been better and I’d have awarded it an extra half a point!
Strange symbols once used to ward off the Black Death. Commissioner Adamsberg my new favourite Parisian detective. Highly recommended.

Kitty, youngest of a large family, on the face of it this about her and a complicated troubled life.
But its so much more than that, deeply emotional and perfectly written I loved this book and it stayed with me for ages.
Vivid and intense…wonderful. The Man Booker Prize Best Novel nominee.

Yes that Mark Gatiss from the excellent TV show ‘The League of Gentleman’.
I was hoping for a lot more but finished the book disappointed and a tad frustrated.
Victorian special agent who solves Fleming type world villains.
Categorised by me as comic but not funny…why do books rarely hit the comic mark?
