“I’ve read back to back Murakami’s and I need a rest!
More magical realism and a good idea, this short novel is good.
But I’m feeling critical so 4/10

“Book club liked this more than me.
I had high hopes having heard good things about other novels he has written, but was disappointed.
If you like David Mitchell or Haruki Murakami you will know the type of magical/fantasy style. It falls short compared to these other two authors.
Book club 6/10 me 4/10

“A recommendation by David Mitchell personally to me (at a great event to discuss Slade House)
This is a modern classic, written in the 1950’s when many West Indian men and women known as the Windrush Generation came to London to start a new life. Not a plot driven novel, and a little depressing, but important view of social history.
I can’t say I enjoyed it much. 4/10

“A debut novel and the critics all like it, saying it has a fresh voice and unpredictable story. Not for me though.
Girl gets abducted, mother feels bad and lost, Girl tells story as does mother… 4/10
