“Another memoir! This is about Luke Jennings growing up in Sussex and how he gets hooked into fishing.
It’s more than this of course and brings a story of growing up as a boy in the sixties, everything had a slower and more innocent pace about it in Sussex in those days.
I bought my first fishing rod from the very same tackle shop. This memoir was shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Tear award

“An interesting book by this debut novelist.
First hundred pages are hard work, so many words I needed to look up in the dictionary! Was this showing off?
The author works in journalism and I’m never keen on that style. BUT I’m so pleased to have persevered through because this turns into a black comedy and well worth reading.
Take a perfectionists flat in eastern block country, fill it with stylish decor and then ask your old Uni mate to look after it while you are away… outcome… read the book and enjoy.
Our book club gave this a healthy average of 5.5/10

“Costa winner and rightly so. I recommend reading this historical novel.
The city graveyard of Paris is overflowing with corpses and had to be shut, it rests and it stinks.
Young engineer Jean Baptiste is given his first job after a surreal interview at Versailles to remove it, contents, church, everything.
This is a multi layered masterpiece and perfect for any reading group who, like ours will discuss late into the night.

“A saga told in the first person narrative. This is Lilly’s story.
Longlisted for the Booker.
Lilly is now an old women, this novel begins in Ireland and political troubles take her and her lover fleeing to America.
We follow her through her life, friends, relationships and family. But this is a lot more than some old saga, lovely prose.
