“Here’s a first for me, a Dutch translation.
Compared by the broadsheet literary review critics with some gusto with Roth and Franzen, this novel is a multi layered saga of a dysfunctional family.
Don’t take it to seriously and enjoy going with the flow. Some bizarre moment which made me chuckle.
Our book group liked it enough to give it 6/10

“I’m glad I read this debut prize winning novel.
Here Filer creates the voice of Matt who after the death of his brother is plagued with mental illness, at times it is hugely sad, but never depressing, other times light and funny.
Isn’t it good when the judges of a literary prize are bold and choose something different and refreshingly written. I wonder what his next book will be like?

“Here is a classic example of not believing the hype/reviews on the back of the book eg “”Supremely plotted and incredibly well-written.”” –The Independent”
A somewhat load of drivel, how we maintained a discussion about this at book club shows we take our reading serious.

“Marvellous story telling with heroes and monsters, good versus evil.
An adult novel from Gaiman which still leans more towards young adult.
Our book group gave it a 7.1/10 and thought it had references to the authors religious upbringing, what do you think?
