Deaf Sentence by David Lodge

2008
10.10

A clever writer, observational and amusing, but he throws in some thought provoking items, such as a visit to Auschwitz.
A retire professor who is nearly deaf gets in a pickle with a manipulative female student.
It’ll be worth reading more by him.

Her second novel after the well reviewed Tractors…
Enjoyable enough and I liked her writing style.
A light humorous touch. Where it falls down is; is it a political statement about immigrants and class or is it a romantic comedy?
Nevertheless I recommend it with 7/10 Oh and the book group liked it too

Our newest read in the book group, jeez we need to pick better books.
Life in an advertising agency in Chicago and billed as very funny, but actually very dull.
I should have given up after 50 pages. Our group gave it an average of 3.5 too

Having never read anything by this American author before, and this his first novel for some time…I was looking forward to reading his book.
The outcome was severe disappointment, in fact a really annoying book.
Told to us by this demon who constantly suggests the reader ‘save yourself’ and ‘burn this book. I should have done this after five pages, my advice; don’t waste the money, burn that instead.
A dismal waste of time.
