Oh well I’m giving it a low score, our group average was marginally better at 3/10 me a lowly 2/10. A poorly written romance/chicklit about a female resistance fighter in WW2. There are so many better books to read. The Nightingale, which was named Goodreads Best Historical fiction novel for 2015 – WHY?

“Perhaps this is JB indulging himself with his knowledge and like of Dmitri Shostakovich? This novel is set in Russia 1936 and highlights the Great Terror that Stalin brought.
Parts of this story are based on real events and for this it is interesting. I did read more of this time period off the back of the novel.
Our book club scored it 5/10 me a mean 3.5/10

“Some reviewers rate this highly, I’m not quite with them. That said JLB is never a bad read.
We follow the life of a young Texan soldier who after rescuing a beautiful Jewish woman during WW2, becomes a successful business man. But his success brings trouble from powerful men.
Yes go on and read it!

“Not really my genre so I’ve rated it middle score, it didn’t blow me away but kept my attention throughout.
This is the first in the long series of nautical adventures beginning with this from 1793, based on real battles. Kydd is the young lad press ganged. We learn all about battle ships and I found this fascinating. I met the author and he has a seafaring pedigree and was honoured with an MBE and retired as Lt Commander. 5/10
