“His second novel and what a difference from his excellent first.
Following along we reengage with Bernie Gunther, the German detective.
Where this falls down from the first novel is it lacks the sparkle and humour. Reading this a few years since it was published (1990) had the distinct feeling of political incorrectness and dated.
Not for me 3/10

“Lincoln Rhyme novel.
The good thing about Deaver is the pages fly by. If you haven’t read one for a while it’s easy to forget there will be a twist in the tail.
An entertaining if a bit gruesome 6/10

“Not his usual Nic Costa Rome series. A standalone.
Mostly this was really good but I felt it lost it’s way a bit towards the end. But do read it. Set in Florence there is lovely sense of place, his two main characters, one a retired/sick detective and the other a young and beautiful art student have a nicely worked dynamic.
Hewson is as good as Rankin and other crime thriller novelists about today in the UK. 6/10

“All said I though this was a really well worked out novel. Complicated enough to ensure I had to think about it rather than just ride along with the story.
Sebastian, a talented and controversial photographer, is accused of murdering a young woman.
Ingenious and note to self to read more when I can.
Book club an average 6/10 I thought it superior and rate it 7.5/10
