“Long listed and likely favourite for the Booker, but didn’t make it to the shortlist.
Historical Dutch/Japanese novel which I’d eagerly awaited and chosen by our book group.
First impression was a disappointment, but perhaps I’ve under scored it?

“Feel good humour and a love story.
Read it in a day or two, nothing heavy here. But it pulls you in and leaves a warm feeling, but don’t expect to remember much about it the following week.

“Thoroughly enjoyable satire of an English professor who muddles along have once won a Nobel prize.
He has a series of failed marriages and affairs behind him. Our book group had mixed feelings, the guys liked it but the girls didn’t.
In places it drags, but other parts are very amusing and memorable.

“Weepy romantic comedy from the writer of Starter for Ten.
I liked this and actually laughed a few times out loud, I nearly cried too! A book club read 5.5/10
