“Very enjoyable and thought provoking drama with humour mixed in.
First time I’ve read this author, I’ll read more.

“Quite shocking and cold hearted, realistic and refreshing for American novels and film.
Well written and one I listened to on audiobook, read expertly by Tom Stechshulte.
I rather got lost on the plot in the last 50 pages which was a shame because generally this was a polished and stylish novel…note to self ‘read more by this author’.

“This is the winner of the CWA (Crime Writers Association) Gold Dagger Award, the UK’s premier crime award.
I’m going to rant now…The CWA have since said that they will not allow a translation to win this prize in the future, narrow minded imbeciles, I’ve cancelled my subscription with immediate effect.
Back to the book, modern day Iceland a body is discovered in an excavation site, the body has been buried for decades.
He covers strong stuff, murder, abuse and rather a dark and gloomy read.
Fast paced and easy to see why it won. Not sure I’d read more by the author, then I’m not a big crime reader.

“A superb and accessible novel by this well respected and shortlisted author.
One might be pardoned for thinking this is like a ‘Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’ but not for me, much better.
Thought to be loosely biographical, 13 year old lad in 80’s middle England, has to deal with family problems, gangs, girls, and having stammer.
Very funny in places, observational and thought provoking. Will take many grown men back to an awkward time.
I’ll read more by him, although I know the novels to be challenging.
