The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

12.10

Booker winning novel
Modern day India is the setting from this debut novel.
A story of rags to riches, murder and class is all interwoven in this fairly simply styled novel.
I liked it but then felt…not that bothered and detached from the story.

Frank being Frank Lloyd Wright the famous American architect who in 1907 runs off with a clients wife. Then not the thing to do and much is made of this, how shocking it was etc. Scandalously they leave their respective partners and children for love. So it all ends in tears with a totally unsuspected conclusion. Our book group average score of 4/10

Long listed for this years Booker and I don’t see it reaching the shortlist.
Everyone is out to get Pakistan’s General Zia (this was true), he is ruling the country but not very well. Amusing and annoying in turns.
Is it aimed at those that like thrillers or literary fiction, either way you would be disappointed.

By the wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Pattie was a successful model (cover of Vogue) who has been in the thick of British music from the beginning of the swinging sixties.
The details are interesting but the writing not so good. I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by her.
It seems everyone involved was heavily into drugs and booze…but they still managed to write some brilliant music, Layla and Wonderful Tonight were both about Pattie Boyd.
