“For a first novel I made allowances.
With a back drop of Kenya I thought ‘yes, this sounds good’ But a ludicrous plot and more violence than I’d prefer brings me to the conclusion not to read more by this author.

Debut novel set in current day Yorkshire. Story about a disturbed sheep farmer son who gets obsessed by the new city girl next door.
Very good if not unsettling. Read it. It should have won some ort of prize…has it?

When Jack dies our protagonist is asked to write his biography.
He is an old and long time friend going back to school days. Then they were chalk and cheese. Jack goes on to become famous as a chat show host, while David the academic wastes his life in a dead end job.
Funny and absorbing in a Jewish angst sort of way. I’ll read more of this author for sure.

This novel hits the spot. My sort of book.
A grand but fading house somewhere in Dorset is the setting for this eerie story. A family who have everything breaks down and falls apart.
Told throughout by the very odd elder sister. Slightly disappointing ending but very well rated debut novel.
