Two brothers from Birmingham are entertainers doing the working mens clubs’ circuit, singing and playing the piano, but one has high hopes and ambition, think Tom Jones!, the other is happy with his lot in life.
First time I’ve read this authors work and found it lovely, funny and true to life.
Winner of the Saga Award for Wit.

Worthy Booker Prize winner and thoroughly enjoyable. Entertaining and funny, with a great swipe at shallow American people. Terrorist atrocity with a quirky difference.
Is it true that DBC stands for Dirty but Clean? I sort of met him at a book party in Soho. Wonderful 5 floored house and packed with people, champagne flowing from top to bottom, happy days…
I’ll recommend this to anyone and hope they think differently of Booker prize winners.

Billed as the Da Vinci Code for people with brains…could only really end with disappointment, in fact I found this American novel ponderously slow and boring.
I gave up with just 70 pages to read.
Will they get to write another book, maybe but I doubt it would be published.

CWA Silver Dagger award winner and if you enjoy crime/thrillers then this has all the credentials.
The sense of place, in Northern Ontario, Canada and a fictional small city of Algonquin Bay was excellent as are the two main characters.
This is page turning stuff, but don’t expect sparkling prose.
Read more from this author…yes
