“I’d wanted to read this highly thought of author for some time.
I see why people like him, he keeps you wondering for much of the book but everything became predictable and un-interesting.
Sorry JG but you let me down with this one. Will I try another by this author, yes probably.

“Ok, to broaden my reading material a book group has been formed by me and a bunch of friends (some I don’t think read much!)
The three rules are simple… 1/ It should be written within the last three years. 2/ No-one in the group can have read the chosen book before. 3/ You don’t have to finish the book.
Well the book…chosen by me and a cross over which was a bit of a worry. However it reads fine.
Death is the narrator, the story follows Leisel a foster girl in Munich 1943.
A touching and at times funny novel. Good start to our book club.

“This came with high critical acclaim, typical of the critics to rave about a book which is a nightmare to read.
Lots of Yiddish words and a plodding plot.

“An interesting book but I’m not sure what the point is.
Our protagonist has lost his way and cuts himself off from the world, but when he has a heart scare and needs help things begin to change.
Ultimately a feel good book which failed to work on me.
