Well how am I scoring this higher than The Metamorphosis? Some thing different about this novel we all really liked. Based on Max Brod and Franz Kafka, the author brings a (sort of) true story to a enjoyable read. Love, betrayal, literary rivalry. Good stuff. book group 7/10 me nearly and 8 but 7.75/10

Ambitious and atmospheric. We discussed this long into the night and collectively a 6/10 me a little less at 5/10. Organised crime of the 1720’s meets Bonnie and Clyde. Clever use of words and a made up language which takes some effort. I’ll recommend this

Not really a book that carried me to my warm and cosy book reading place. 3.5/10 and 5/10 for the group. Sigurjón Birgir Sigurðsson, known as Sjón, is an Icelandic poet, novelist, and lyricist. a young gay boy living in Iceland around the time of the Spanish Flu epidemic…. I don’t usually look at other reviews but on this occasion I peeked at GoodReads and so many people thought this a great book. So don’t take my word for it, decide for your self.

Oh well I’m giving it a low score, our group average was marginally better at 3/10 me a lowly 2/10. A poorly written romance/chicklit about a female resistance fighter in WW2. There are so many better books to read. The Nightingale, which was named Goodreads Best Historical fiction novel for 2015 – WHY?
