His third novel. Our book group read this too.
A married couple have had 10 years together and this was more of convenience than love. When the husband comes off his ‘medication’ things begin to happen. The passion between them sparkles, but wait, he becomes moody and unpredictable.
The first half I found to slow, the second unsatisfying. Not good enough for a suspense nor a romantic novel.
If I read more by him (and enjoyed the other two very much) it would have to be some excellent reviews to tempt me.

Booker shortlist and Costa winner.
Literary, well written and accessible. Our latest book group read.
Set on the west coast of Ireland Co Sligo 1900’s in a crumbling mental home. Roseanne has been a patient here for 60 years and when the hospital has to close Dr Greene has to access her to see where she should be placed.
We find out how she gets here and the horrible way clergy and men treated women in those times.

In parts interesting and atmospheric and in other parts dull and long winded.
I liked reading a book set in Cuba, written by a Cuban, also the sense of the love of music and books.
A detective/noir novel. Good but not great.

Booker winning novel
Modern day India is the setting from this debut novel.
A story of rags to riches, murder and class is all interwoven in this fairly simply styled novel.
I liked it but then felt…not that bothered and detached from the story.
