“The Gothic story begins well with a midnight ceremony in the local church, birds fly out into the night and strange characters are ominously present.
Kate Mosse has lived in the Fishbourne and Chichester area and here is the setting for The Taxidermist’s Daughter. She knows the area no doubting that, perhaps for me a little too much local knowledge is demonstrated and less would have been more.
Where I felt the book wasn’t for me was I couldn’t get the Gothic style of the novel, I wanted more sinister and scary style.
Our book club had similar comments and overall we scored the novel 3.75/10

“Terrific form from one of my favourite authors.
More linear than some works, goes into some mystical realism, fantastically biting characters. Top form.
Stop reading crap books and read this!

“Our New Yorker runs away from a broken relationship taking up an offer of a rather odd job in Dubai. We follow him through this and read via the first person. Where it gets clever is the constant internal debates he has with himself, writing imaginary emails in his head he’ll never send.
Listed in the long list of the Booker, I liked it and give it a 7/10, our book group scored it 7.75/10

Score 7/10

“I’ve always had a hankering to read something by this well respected American author. Her new novel was chosen by our book group.
If you read the critic or some of the social network reviews you might be thinking 8/10. I felt it was slow and a time wasting book which prevented me reading something else, not for me. A generous 2.5/10 and our group liked it a little more with 3.9/10

Score 3/10
