Another fine book from one of my favourite authors. I’d urge you to read this black comedy. Mother and son leave NYC for Paris having lost/spent their fortune. They smuggle the cat along who features as things get a little crazy later on. I enjoyed the relationship between Mother and son particularly, dry humour at its best. A good book group read.

A violent crime novel. Took me ages to read it which is a sure sign of lack of engagement. Other readers rate it better than me, am I missing something?

My initial thought was ‘what the bloody hell was the point of all that’! Yes I know many loved the book, the critics rave about it. I’ve read other by him and thoroughly enjoyed them. Couldn’t connect at all to this self absorbed, mid life crisis character.

“Didn’t like this novel by French thriller writer as much as his Commandant Camille Verhoeven Trilogy which is edgy and unpredictable. I’d go for those rather than this. This story revolves around a childhood incident that leaves a guilty secret festering away…
