High quality writing here, very simple but very effective.
A remote island with only one white man who is a volunteer teacher for the kids. All he knows is Great Expectations and a life of experience.
Things turn dark and disturbing which leaves one surprised and provoked. Booker shortlisted

Deaf Sentence by David Lodge

A clever writer, observational and amusing, but he throws in some thought provoking items, such as a visit to Auschwitz.
A retire professor who is nearly deaf gets in a pickle with a manipulative female student.
It’ll be worth reading more by him.

Long listed for this years Booker and I don’t see it reaching the shortlist.
Everyone is out to get Pakistan’s General Zia (this was true), he is ruling the country but not very well. Amusing and annoying in turns.
Is it aimed at those that like thrillers or literary fiction, either way you would be disappointed.

A cursed book and a troposphere = a great idea for a story.
The novel borders on sci-fi but isn’t really.
Ariel finds and reads the cursed book, then takes a potion, this takes her via the Troposphere, this allows her to jump into peoples minds (or mice’s minds!)
Would I read more by her, yes definitely.
