We’ve formed another book group called BookPub and this is our first book. It’s not a complicated book nor very well written, but it has something. 2 sisters, one glamourous and the other plain and sensible. They both fall for a dashing African doctor. Sort listed for the Booker price (why?).

I’d describe this as a fairly decent crime novel. The author is starting a series and there is quite a lot of setting up. Based in India it has a good flavour and I’m sure will build into a good string of books. Our WS book group scored it 6.5, me 5/10. Not bad for a debut novel.

I’m busy telling everyone to get on and read this novel. It has a wonderful voice in Eleanor. Then there is a bit of mystery about it. It touches the heart strings and made me laugh too. All around excellent debut novel

This thriller has something about it. I like the Australian setting and the author does a good job of delivering the heat and atmosphere. This is a debut novel and won best book in the Dagger awards. 6/10
